Britney Spears appearance on Glee met with some extremely harsh criticism from the Parents Television Council. They called it “the worst show of the week, according to Contact Music”.
The group issued a statement that basically reprimanded the show Glee’s powers that be of putting someone like Britney Spears on show when the viewers are basically tweens and teens.
They are indignant that Glee put Spears on the show and it gathered 13.3 million viewers because of her appearance. The group‘s statement than said that Spears “represents narcotic drug abuse, public masturbation, and school sanctioned burlesque.” Whoa, them are some fighting words!
It is safe to say Britney Spears will not be receiving an award from this group anytime soon. It appears they do not hold Britney Spears in high regard.
The group’s main complaint is that Britney Spears should not be held as a role model after all her rehab stints, troubles with parenting and her public break down.
This is entertainment! If Britney Spears did not do any of these things on the air, then what is the problem? If the Parents Television Council looked into the background of every single celebrity that appears on the shows that their kids watch and demand they not show up in the shows, more than likely the kids would be staring at an empty TV screen. While this may be a bit of an exaggeration, it is true that there are many people with skeletons in their closets that have moved on and bettered themselves. This may just be a bit overboard!
Britney Spears appeared in Connecticut last year and more trouble followed her there. During her concert at the Mohegan Sun, a fan jumped on the stage. The man was drunk and was put under arrest. He was just a few feet away from Britney when a back up dancer got between the two of them. This was during “The Circus starring Britney Spears” tour.
