Mo’Nique – an accolade bigger than the Oscar

Guess what could be the bigger award for a Hollywood celebrity than an Oscar win? Perhaps, nothing! But Mo’Nique had a bigger reason to celebrate than the 1st Oscar for her debut film!

The Los Angeles Times reports that Mo’Nique who won the Best Supporting Actress award on 82nd Academy Awards night on 7th March 2010 for her marvelous performance in “Precious” as Mary Jones had a bash at a party at West Hollywood’s Philippe Chow held to honor her for her Oscar winning performance.

And guess who the guests were at the ladies-only luncheon event hosted by MAC Cosmetics and actress Shondrella Avery! Lots of celebs attended including Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Gabourey “Precious” Sidibe, Natalie Cole, Macy Gray, Alfre Woodard, Vivica A. Fox, Ali Landry, Nia Long, Keisha Whitaker, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Ruby Dee

Now, that’s something! A party full of famous actresses, models and celebrities and that too for honoring a newcomer is something more than one could ask for!

The party had a French theme and white gloves and artificial pearls were used to decorate the venue. There were champagne cocktails and chicken lettuce cups to go with the main course. Eiffel Tower was the shape of the cake topped up with icing pearls.

There were praises to be heard from every corner and everyone said Mo’Nique should take away the trophy. And if that was not enough, a $25,000 donation was announced by John Demsey, MAC AIDS Fund Chairman, in Mo’Nique’s name to help the HIV/AIDS organization Women Alive.

All the celebs went home with a gift bag including cameras, beauty products and Pascal Mouawad sparklers!

So much for the lady even before she had made the Oscar win! God knows what is in store for her now as she stands this year’s Best Supporting Actress…
