Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

In "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest," the final book in the late Stieg Larsson's international bestselling Millennium Trilogy, the Swedish author torques up the mental chess and tones down the action. And so it is in the film from director Daniel Alfredson, who delivers an extremely satisfying ending to the story of Lisbeth Salander, the tough Swedish cyber punk that actress Noomi Rapace has turned into an iconic New Age heroine.

Alfredson, who picked up directing duties with the second installment, "The Girl Who Played With Fire," uses the tonal switch to get us far closer to the enigma of a character so burned by life, so darkly brooding, that she keeps human connections and communication to a maddening minimum. In "Hornet's Nest," the director again proves he's not afraid of silence and in Rapace, he has an actor who knows exactly what to do, and not do, with it.

The film opens with Lisbeth clinging to life, a bullet in her head, put there by the hulking, murderous half-brother she never knew she had. Screenwriter Ulf Ryberg rests the narrative on her hospital recovery, prison stay and courtroom drama rather than the fast-moving, bone-crunching fights, bloody shootouts and the brutal rape that characterized and popularized the first two films. That decision helps tease out the social issues that were sometimes lost in the early films, which were otherwise fairly traditional thrillers.

It turns out to be a savvy way to retain the tension while going about the complicated business of tying up the many threads of Lisbeth's story. Part of the genius of all three adaptations is the way in which the writers (Nikolaj Arcel and Rasmus Heisterberg on the first, Jonas Frykberg on the second) have stripped everything down to the bare essentials, reducing Larsson's densely detailed plot and rising pyramid of interlocking characters to focus on Lisbeth's story.

The films' other central character, crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist (portrayed with a steady intelligence by well-known Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist), is a shadow of the man Larsson envisioned; his editor and sometime lover Erika Berger (Lena Endre) even more so. But with Lisbeth in confined spaces here, the filmmakers have given the characters more room to breathe. Nyqvist and Endre make the most of it, with Endre's heat playing well against Nyqvist's chill.

In the first two films, Lisbeth's great skills, beyond the computer hacking genius that serves as both weapon and wall in her life, are her hand-to-hand combat chops, surprisingly brutal for a waif, and her ability to disappear without a trace. By forcing her to stay in frame — as she recovers in the hospital, builds her strength back in the prison cell and confronts her demons in the courtroom — Alfredson begins to remove all that she has used to hide behind.

Rapace moves through the escalating exposure with a series of subtle shifts that are both painful and exquisite to watch. The actress can make eye contact seem like salt in an open wound. Never has Lisbeth had to rely so heavily on others and never has Rapace channeled her tortured past better. And yet the filmmakers counter any vulnerability in a dramatic courtroom showdown where Lisbeth's heavily pierced body, severely spiked mohawk and preference for studded leather serves as a visual and conceptual attack on Sweden's culture of conformity, long a target of Larsson's.

Indeed, the film's spine-tingling edge comes from the gathering evil forces, history's legacy. The secret, government-funded espionage unit that protected her Russian defector father is back with several of its top agents coming out of retirement. With their canes, mottled skin and dialysis treatments, they crystallize a Larsson theme — that such nefarious Cold-War tactics have outlived their time.

On a separate front is the half-brother, Niedermann (Mikael Spreitz), a monster whose genetic misprint means that he literally feels no pain, and if nothing else, his presence ensures there will be blood and action. But the best of the bad is Dr. Peter Teleborian, the psychiatrist who oversaw Lisbeth's twisted "treatment" when she was institutionalized at 12. Anders Ahlbom gives Teleborian a disturbingly soothing duplicity made all the more chilling the more we learn.

In keeping with the idea of Lisbeth's captivity, cinematographer Peter Mokrosinski creates a cool, minimalist sensibility, stripped as bare as the story. It complements the confident efficiency Alfredson brings to the production.

Through it all, you feel the echoes of the earlier films rippling through "Hornet's Nest" — the dragon tattoo crawling up the spine of the sinewy outsider, the searing flames of abuse that continue to burn, a journalist's solitary fight for justice — so that when the end does come, elegant in its understatement, it feels exactly as it should be. You can almost believe it would make Lisbeth smile. Almost.

Anna Nicole Smith's boyfriend convicted in drug conspiracy

Anna Nicole Smith's boyfriend-lawyer Howard K. Stern and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich were found guilty on two charges of conspiring to provide drugs to a known addict and using false names to obtain them Thursday.

Dr. Sandeep Kapoor was acquitted on all counts against him.

Eroshevich, a psychiatrist who flew to Smith's side in the Bahamas after her son's death in 2006, was also convicted on two other charges relating to a Vicodin prescription given to Smith.

The jury deliberated for 12 days before returned its verdicts in the trial that included two months of testimony,

Stern and the doctors were charged with conspiring to feed the reality TV star and Playboy model's drug addiction, and using false names to obtain the drugs over the last three years of her life.

The three defendants were not charged in Smith's February 2007 death in a Florida hotel, which a medical examiner ruled was an accidental overdose of a sleep aid combined with the effects of a viral flu.

The case raised questions about ethical boundaries in a doctor-patient relationship, the prescribing of painkillers and anti-anxiety medicines and the use of fake names when treating celebrities.

The defense called only one witness -- an expert who concluded that Smith suffered from chronic pain, depression and anxiety, not drug addiction.

Her drug dependency was legal since it was for legitimate medical purposes, including for treatment of her pain and anxiety, defense lawyers argued.

The prosecution said the doctors never said no to Smith's drug-seeking because they wanted to be part of her celebrity entourage.

False names were used by Stern and the doctors to hide excessive prescriptions from the state's computer system that monitors drug usage, prosecutors argued. The defense said it is a common practice in Hollywood, used to protect celebrities' privacy from prying tabloid reporters.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Robert Perry hinted before the verdicts were returned that if any defendants were found guilty, he would consider "possible selective prosecution issues" when sentencing them. He would have the power to reduce most of the felony charges to misdemeanors.

After the verdicts were returned, Perry set sentencing for January 6. Stern and Eroshvich could face a maximum of three years each in prison, according to the prosecutor's office.

Democratic Messaging Diluted as Obama Pleads With Base

President Obama still has a series of campaign events this weekend ahead of Tuesday's Election Day, but it's his appearances off the campaign trail that has Washington watchers wondering whether he's trying to shed his coattails before an expected Democratic drubbing at the polls.

The choice of non-political events the president has selected this campaign season doesn't appear to be doing hopeful Democrats any favors. And with the House expected to lose anywhere from 45-60 Democratic seats to Republicans and the Senate likely to turn a handful or more seats to the GOP, according to the latest polling prognosticators, the president already is setting the bar low for the next two years.

"I'm president and not king," Obama said Wednesday night in a meeting with bloggers meant to shore up what's left of his support. "And so I've got to get a majority in the House and I've got to get 60 votes in the Senate to move any legislative initiative forward."

In the thick of it all, the White House announced that on Thursday Obama would host the Americans involved with freeing the Chilean miners from their underground crypt two weeks ago. One of his biggest events of the past month was the delivery of solar panels to the White House roof.,
Democratic Messaging Obama,

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the meeting with the rescuers was scheduled because several U.S. government agencies and private companies in the U.S. were instrumental in helping the miners and it was a story many Americans watched closely.

Mariah Carey Finally Confirms Pregnancy

Months after Us Weekly first broke the news that she is expecting, Mariah Carey has confirmed that she is pregnant.

"Yes, we are pregnant. It is true," she said Thursday morning on NBC's Today show as part of a sneak peek at a three-part Access Hollywood interview. "It's been a long journey. It's been tough because I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy."

In the Access interview, she revealed that she miscarried right after she and Nick Cannon wed in 2008. "It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that was really dark and difficult," she said. "When that happened... I wasn't able to even talk to anybody about it. That was not easy."

PHOTOS: New celeb moms and their adorable little ones

Cannon, 30, said "it definitely brought us closer together. It strengthened our relationship so much... She handled it so well."

She said she is due in spring but didn't want to say the exact date.

She said they have no plans to find out the baby's sex.

Carey, 41, first fueled pregnancy rumors in May when it was announced that she dropped out of Tyler Perry's drama For Colored Girls "because her doctor advised her not to," her rep told UsMagazine.com at the time.

Around the same time, she stepped out in Sao Paulo, Brazil, wearing a $140 Pea in the Pod Spaghetti Strap Halter Maternity Maxi Dress.

Ever since, she and Cannon -- who renewed their vows this past May to mark their second wedding anniversary -- have spent months carefully dodging pregnancy questions.

"I've said it before and I'll say it time and time again -- when my wife feels like talking about whatever she wants to talk about, you will hear it directly from her," Cannon said on his radio show NYC radio show in August. "Honestly ... I say this to you so you can tell whoever it is you've got to tell, we all know it's extremely personal, and it is for a woman to deal with things with her body, and especially when dealing with the idea of childbirth and all that stuff."

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is cancer originating from breast tissue, most commonly from the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply the ducts with milk. Cancers originating from ducts are known as ductal carcinomas; those originating from lobules are known as lobular carcinomas.
Prognosis and survival rate varies greatly depending on cancer type and staging.Computerized models are available to predict survival. With best treatment and dependent on staging, 10-year disease-free survival varies from 98% to 10%. Treatment includes surgery, drugs (hormonal therapy and chemotherapy), and radiation.
Worldwide, breast cancer comprises 10.4% of all cancer incidence among women, making it the most common type of non-skin cancer in women and the fifth most common cause of cancer death. In 2004, breast cancer caused 519,000 deaths worldwide (7% of cancer deaths; almost 1% of all deaths). Breast cancer is about 100 times more common in women than in men, although males tend to have poorer outcomes due to delays in diagnosis.
Some breast cancers are sensitive to hormones such as estrogen and/or progesterone which makes it possible to treat them by blocking the effects of this hormones in the target tissues. These have better prognosis and require less aggressive treatment than hormone negative cancers.
Breast cancers without hormone receptors, or which have spread to the lymph nodes in the armpits, or which express certain genetic characteristics, are higher-risk, and are treated more aggressively. One standard regimen, popular in the U.S., is cyclophosphamide plus doxorubicin (Adriamycin), known as CA; these drugs damage DNA in the cancer, but also in fast-growing normal cells where they cause serious side effects. Sometimes a taxane drug, such as docetaxel, is added, and the regime is then known as CAT; taxane attacks the microtubules in cancer cells. An equivalent treatment, popular in Europe, is cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, and fluorouracil (CMF).[9] Monoclonal antibodies, such as trastuzumab (Herceptin), are used for cancer cells that have the HER2 mutation. Radiation is usually added to the surgical bed to control cancer cells that were missed by the surgery, which usually extends survival, although radiation exposure to the heart may cause damage and heart failure in the following years.

Classification

Breast cancers can be classified by different schemata. Every aspect influences treatment response and prognosis. Description of a breast cancer would optimally include multiple classification aspects, as well as other findings, such as signs found on physical exam. Classification aspects include stage (TNM), pathology, grade, receptor status, and the presence or absence of genes as determined by DNA testing:
Stage. The TNM classification for breast cancer is based on the size of the tumor (T), whether or not the tumor has spread to the lymph nodes (N) in the armpits, and whether the tumor has metastasized (M) (i.e. spread to a more distant part of the body). Larger size, nodal spread, and metastasis have a larger stage number and a worse prognosis.
The main stages are:
Stage 0 is a pre-malignant disease or marker (sometimes called DCIS: Ductal Carcinoma in Situ) .
Stages 1–3 are defined as 'early' cancer and potentially curable.
Stage 4 is defined as 'advanced' and/or 'metastatic' cancer and incurable.
Histopathology. Breast cancer is usually, but not always, primarily classified by its histological appearance. Most breast cancers are' derived from the epithelium lining the ducts or lobules, and are classified as mammary ductal carcinoma. Carcinoma in situ is proliferation of cancer cells within the epithelial tissue without invasion of the surrounding tissue. In contrast, invasive carcinoma invades the surrounding tissue.
Grade (Bloom-Richardson grade). When cells become differentiated, they take different shapes and forms to function as part of an organ. Cancerous cells lose that differentiation. In cancer grading, tumor cells are generally classified as well differentiated (low grade), moderately differentiated (intermediate grade), and poorly differentiated (high grade). Poorly differentiated cancers have a worse prognosis.
Receptor status. Cells have receptors on their surface and in their cytoplasm and nucleus. Chemical messengers such as hormones bind to receptors, and this causes changes in the cell. Breast cancer cells may or may not have three important receptors: estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and HER2/neu. Cells with none of these receptors are called basal-like or triple negative. ER+ cancer cells depend on estrogen for their growth, so they can be treated with drugs to block estrogen effects (e.g. tamoxifen), and generally have a better prognosis.
Generally, HER2+ had a worse prognosis, however HER2+ cancer cells respond to drugs such as the monoclonal antibody, trastuzumab, (in combination with conventional chemotherapy) and this has improved the prognosis significantly.
DNA microarrays have compared normal cells to breast cancer cells and found differences in hundreds of genes, but the significance of most of those differences is unknown.

Signs and symptoms

Breast cancer showing an inverted nipple, lump, skin dimpling
The first noticeable symptom of breast cancer is typically a lump that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue. More than 80% of breast cancer cases are discovered when the woman feels a lump. By the time a breast lump is noticeable, it has probably been growing for years. The earliest breast cancers are detected by a mammogram. Lumps found in lymph nodes located in the armpits can also indicate breast cancer.
Indications of breast cancer other than a lump may include changes in breast size or shape, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, or spontaneous single-nipple discharge. Pain ("mastodynia") is an unreliable tool in determining the presence or absence of breast cancer, but may be indicative of other breast health issues.
When breast cancer cells invade the dermal lymphatics—small lymph vessels in the skin of the breast—its presentation can resemble skin inflammation and thus is known as inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). Symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer include pain, swelling, warmth and redness throughout the breast, as well as an orange-peel texture to the skin referred to as peau d'orange.
Another reported symptom complex of breast cancer is Paget's disease of the breast. This syndrome presents as eczematoid skin changes such as redness and mild flaking of the nipple skin. As Paget's advances, symptoms may include tingling, itching, increased sensitivity, burning, and pain. There may also be discharge from the nipple. Approximately half of women diagnosed with Paget's also have a lump in the breast.
In rare cases, what initially appears as a fibroadenoma (hard movable lump) could in fact be a phyllodes tumor. Phyllodes tumors are formed within the stroma (connective tissue) of the breast and contain glandular as well as stromal tissue. Phyllodes tumors are not staged in the usual sense; they are classified on the basis of their appearance under the microscope as benign, borderline, or malignant.
Occasionally, breast cancer presents as metastatic disease, that is, cancer that has spread beyond the original organ. Metastatic breast cancer will cause symptoms that depend on the location of metastasis. Common sites of metastasis include bone, liver, lung and brain. Unexplained weight loss can occasionally herald an occult breast cancer, as can symptoms of fevers or chills. Bone or joint pains can sometimes be manifestations of metastatic breast cancer, as can jaundice or neurological symptoms. These symptoms are "non-specific", meaning they can also be manifestations of many other illnesses.
Most symptoms of breast disorder do not turn out to represent underlying breast cancer. Benign breast diseases such as mastitis and fibroadenoma of the breast are more common causes of breast disorder symptoms. The appearance of a new symptom should be taken seriously by both patients and their doctors, because of the possibility of an underlying breast cancer

Michael Lohan Says Mom Dina Helped Mess Lindsay Up Too

Michael Lohan Says Mom Dina Helped Mess Lindsay Up Too

Michael Lohan is all about shared parental responsibility—at least where it concerns placing blame for the troubles of his daughter, Lindsay Lohan.

According to reports, LiLo—who's currently cooling her heels in rehab at the Betty Ford Center after testing positive on a court-ordered drug test—has been telling pals that her father is to blame for the situation that she finds herself in, thanks to his history of incarceration, absenteeism and alleged abusive behavior.

And now Papa Lohan is stepping up to say that his daughter's accusations are untrue—his ex-wife, Dina Lohan, has provided plenty of help in destabilizing Lindsay's life as well.

The elder Lohan tells TMZ that Dina engaged in a streak of reckless behavior that definitely left its mark on an impressionable young Lindsay. Chief among the accusations: That, when LiLo was 4 years old, Dina got into an argument with Michael's mother—and allegedly smashed a phone across her face, causing an injury that required six stitches.

Michael goes on to claim that Dina once attempted to attack Michael, leaping over two beds to get at him—and accidentally knocking herself out in the process.

For the record, a friend of Dina's says that Michael's claims are "absolutely not true. She will not respond to anything Michael Lohan says."

Maybe they can work out a joint custody arrangement for the guilt over ruining their daughter's life.

Courteney Cox Offered $1 Mil to Promote Cougar Hunt

Just one day after it was announced that Courteney separated from David Arquette, CougarLife.com -- a website that specializes in matching older women with younger men -- mailed her a $1 million contract to become their official spokes-cougar.

We're told CL believes Courteney's personal "circumstances" -- coupled with the fact that she stars in "Cougar Town" -- make her the perfect candidate.

As far as the contract goes -- Cox would be required to voice 12 radio ads, appear in 4 TV ads, and make at least 30 public appearances for the CL brand ... all within the span of one year.

But there's a catch -- CL would reserve the right to fire Cox if she gets arrested or "conducts herself in a manner that brings herself into disrepute."

So far no word on whether CC plans to sign.

Katy Perry to guest star on 'The Simpsons'! Here's your exclusive first look

Katy Perry to your exclusive
first look,
It looks like Katy Perry will get to sing with a puppet on TV after all. Although Sesame Street has decided that Perry’s “Hot N Cold” duet with Elmo is too hot for TV, The Simpsons is rolling out the yellow carpet for the pop star. EW.com has learned that Perry will guest in a Christmas-themed episode of the animated comedy—and in an unusual way: She appears as herself in a live-action segment that features Simpsons characters as puppets. “In the wake of Elmo’s terrible betrayal, the Simpsons puppets wish to announce they stand felt-shoulder-to-shoulder with Katy Perry,” quipped series executive producer Al Jean in a statement to EW.com. Not only does the singer wind up leading Homer & Co. in a rendition of “The 39 Days of Christmas,” she plays the unlikely role of… Moe’s girlfriend! Yes, from Elmo to Moe she goes. (And as you can see in the picture above, her sartorial selection for this gig probably wouldn’t have been Street-approved either: The PBS show announced on Sept. 23 that it wouldn’t air Perry’s performance after previewing it on YouTube and receiving complaints about her cleavage-revealing outfit. By the way, her Simpsons bit was shot in mid-September, prior to the fuss.) Perry, the musical guest on Saturday Night Live tonight, won’t be the only celebrity gracing this Simpsons episode; Martha Stewart also pops up, but in cartoon form. “The Fight Before Christmas” airs Dec. 5 on Fox.

The Hollywood Bowl's spectacular fireworks

The Hollywood Bowl's spectacular fireworks

The star-spangled light shows are an awesome summer tradition that provides a dramatic backdrop for music of all stripes. Thank Eric S. Elias for the subtle yet spectacular displays.

Hollywood Bowl fireworks
Fireworks explode over the Hollywood Bowl as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by John Morris Russell (seen on screens), performs July 2. (Jay L. Clendenin, Los Angeles Times / July 1, 2010)
By way of star-spangled patriotism and unabashed Americana, you'd have been hard-pressed over the weekend to find a more rousing celebration than the "July 4th Fireworks Spectacular" at the Hollywood Bowl. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, backed by the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West, ran through a program of music designed to swell national pride — "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," "God Bless America" — with a guest set by country superstar Vince Gill.

Then came the finale: More than 10 minutes of eye-popping pyrotechnics perfectly synchronized to a brassy medley of military marches by John Philip Sousa.

The sky above Hollywood bloomed with colorful explosions, with rockets leaving trails of brilliant illumination as they shot upward. It culminated each evening with the words "Liberty" and "Freedom" spelled out in golden sparklers above the band shell.
Bowl fireworks have become a reliable tradition of summer's warmest months over the last four decades: a ceremonial practice that helps define the season for outdoor music lovers of all stripes, providing a dramatic visual counterpoint to the classical, and sometimes rock, country or world music.

"You bring a picnic and open some wine. You hear all this music and then the amazing fireworks," concertgoer Ted Herschel of Topanga Canyon said Friday night. "Is there a better way to spend a summer night in L.A.?"

The Bowl's fireworks programs require precision and even a little restraint not always associated with such explosive displays. The pyrotechnics are synchronized to "visually accent" the music — rather than distract from or overwhelm it — and extensive safety precautions are needed to head off any threat of fire in the arid landscape surrounding the amphitheater.

Heading the team is pyrotechnic operator in charge Eric S. Elias, a practicing entertainment attorney who this year marks his 32nd season working for the venue. He has come to rank among the top technicians in his field, instructing local fire departments and helping write the syllabus for state fire marshals on how to deal with theatrical pyrotechnics — in addition to overseeing a staff of around 30 people and personally designing and triggering the Bowl's fireworks displays.

"The crew that's here takes great pride in putting on these shows," Elias said, standing atop the Bowl's band shell recently. "We take it very seriously."

Although he works as a lawyer part of the time, Elias strenuously avoids the courtroom to concentrate on his main gig, overseeing pyrotechnics for venues throughout Southern California, including Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, San Diego's Hotel del Coronado and the Santa Barbara Bowl. His preparations for the Bowl's June to September fireworks season begin months before any performances take place. Receiving digital recordings close to what will be played for a particular concert — performed by the same orchestra and led by the conductor on the bill whenever possible — he listens to every piece of music repeatedly until he pinpoints the precise moments that seem ripe for a fireworks launch. From there, Elias designs a "script," using a computer to plot out the size, volume and frequency of light volleys; selecting their various colors and deciding where to deploy the pyrotechnic devices around the Bowl's band shell and two adjoining rooftops.

The Bowl's pyrotechnics are custom-designed to detonate quietly (so as to not overwhelm the orchestra), traveling no more than 200 feet in the air. And every aerial burst is dictated by the pace and intensity of each musical selection.

"For the closing segment of 'Carmina Burana,' we put up a series of 84 flame balls in 12 seconds," Elias recalled. "We'll be doing Handel's 'Messiah' on July 6; there'll be a lot of silver and gold, wave patterns, a lot of large flourish devices. [Last year's performance by rock band] Death Cab for Cutie had a refrain that repeats throughout the song but builds in acoustical volume. We stayed in time with the music and increased in quantity to visually re-create increasing volume."

When the 74-year-old band shell was rebuilt in 2004, a vast infrastructure of scaffolds and walkways as well as a stairwell superstructure that traverses its distinctive concentric arches wereinstalled with fireworks deployment specifically in mind.

"Essentially, the new facility was designed so every horizontal surface could be used as a launching platform," Elias said.

It was a sound investment considering that the L.A. Phil puts on around 12 concerts involving fireworks each year, not including events sub-leased to outside performers. This summer, they include Tuesday's "Glorious Celebration" (the fireworks come in for Handel's "Hallelujah"), the "Tchaikovsky Spectacular With Fireworks" on Aug. 20 and 21, "Earth, Wind & Fire (Works)" on Sept. 3 and 4, and the "Fireworks Finale" on Sept. 10 through 12.

Counterintuitive although it may sound, Elias' — and by extension, the Bowl's — fireworks designs have come to be appreciated for their subtlety as much as their visual brilliance.

"Eric brings subtlety to something that is inherently spectacular," said Arvind Manocha, the L.A. Phil's chief operating officer. "The tendency of a crude person would be to throw up big bursts on every downbeat — you could do that. He realizes things have to be constrained. That's why patrons are sitting at these concerts saying, 'These are the best fireworks I've ever seen.'"

Of course, no one who performs at the Hollywood Bowl can actually see any of the pyrotechnics (save for the rockets' reflected glare on the audience). All the explosive charges are launched either from atop the band shell or the low buildings behind the stage. Nonetheless, the concerts are still viscerally thrilling experiences for members of the Philharmonic.

"It can be a real trip to be in the shell," said principal keyboardist Joanne Pearce Martin. "You've got giant bombs going off above where you're playing. We hear it like crazy, especially the low frequencies. It can be pretty smoky. If the wind is blowing in different directions, the smoke can come onstage. And it's a pretty powerful thing to watch the crowd, 18,000 heads being lit up in all these different colors."

Asked whether there were any downsides to such detonations during performances, Martin confirmed that many of her colleagues in the string section know to leave their Stradivarius violins at home when pyrotechnics are on the program. "They don't bring their best instruments to play at the Bowl because of the risk," she said.

The band shell blind spot almost became a liability for the platinum-selling alt-rock band Death Cab for Cutie, which performed at the venue last July. Unable to see the curtain of golden flame that began erupting atop the band shell during the group's set-closing number, "Transatlanticism" — and yet acutely aware that something "spectacular" was going on — curiosity nearly got the better of band members.

"We almost stopped playing to turn around and look," bassist Nick Harmer remembered. "People were slack-jawed and wide-eyed. And we're like, 'What's going on?' It took all of our energy to focus forward instead of wanting to turn back to watch it yourself."

Although this weekend's "Fireworks Spectacular" involved the use of 128 pyrotechnic cues and the deployment of thousands of individual fireworks, cutting-edge computer technology and dozens of strategically placed safety monitors stationed on roofs and in the area surrounding the venue for each performance, Elias made the process sound surprisingly simple.

"The aim is to try and be as evocative as possible of the mood the music creates," Elias said. "When you're dealing with pyrotechnics, you're painting with the dark as often as you're painting with the light."

Russian pussy

My brings up died when erotic lady was 7 in an machine wreck with a bibulous driver, and russian nude pussy was evoked my other grandparents the Jorgensons. These grandparents owned a big ranch which marched Montana Jakes cattle farm, and I'd ride my horse stake and forth 2 miles betwixt the houses. These grandparents passed away 4 years ago, and that was the last of my kinsperson. I have not been national in the meanwhile letting the erotic naked models directors run everything for most erotic teen free. I am now nursing home to live for good nude hairy russian girls. I have a stage in occupation, with a moment major in information processing system scheduling, and on Monday it will be harbingered who owns Conner manufactures, and I will turn the Chairman Of The instrument panel and CEO over everything. I am 6'3" tall, and took within nude girls photos reason estimable looking. Whilst in college, I had a really nerdy look to not outdoor stage out, and her pretty pussy kneaded as I never had even unrivalled go out and am stillness a virgin.

Pretty little nude tits

Brent had represented dating Jill for on six years and nude tits. My pretty little babe was a shocking woman, roughly art busty fine nude five invertebrate foot nine, tenacious auburn hair with the most graveling green eyes I had ever envisioned. I saw that her tits we are as perfect out of a brassiere as they ever archive erotic picture seemed in one. She had an hourglass forge that prompted me of a classic picture actress’s body. Rapper T.I. Gets Jail Time, To Serve 11 Months In Prison; Oxycodone Blamed

Despite rapper T.I.’s heroic efforts a few days ago to help a suicidal man off a building ledge, as reported on HipHopRx.com, he’ll be heading back to jail. T.I., born Clifford Harris Jr, 29, had a hearing Friday for violating the terms of his probation after getting arrested on September 1st for making an illegal U-turn on Sunset Blvd, being in possession of a controlled substance, being in the company of a convicted felon and failing a drug test.

On Friday, before U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr., T.I. didn’t have very much to say, but stated in a pre-written statement that he was sorry and that he was fearful of him and going back to prison. The rapper spoke on his childhood and how it has contributed to the things that he has done. Many supporters online beg to differ and feel that T.I. should just let go of old friends and associates who do not have him or his family’s best interest at heart.
According to T.I.’s legal team, a prescription of addicting oxycodone was prescribed to him after having a dental procedure which consisted of seven root canals and two extractions earlier this year, this is what allegedly helped to pushed him off the wagon.
When it came time for T.I.’s sentence, the judge didn’t hesitate to let him know that he needs to begin as soon as possible to get it over with.
Rapper T.I. must report to the Bureau of Prisons in 2 weeks, November 1st, and instead of serving time in Arkansas, the rapper will be spending prison time close to home in Atlanta.
Afraid of returning to the last prison where he served time on Federal Gun Charges, T.I. whispered to his attorney who spoke in court and asked to recommend anywhere else but the last place.

Jackass 3D' Crowned Friday Box-Office Winner

Los Angeles-Prankster romp nets US$21.8 million on opening day.

latest collection of rowdy stunts filmed for viewers' entertainment, "Jackass 3D," debuted with a hefty Friday box-office tally of US$21.8 million. This time around, the crew's infamously captivating yet cringe-worthy tricks were enhanced by the magic of 3-D technology and the Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O-helmed posse opened in the top spot.

Hitting theaters with about a third of the "Jackass" haul is the espionage thriller "Red." Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren bring the action of Warren Ellis' graphic novels to the big screen in a tale of slick, shady government cover-ups. The film debuted in second place with an estimated $7.2 million.

The dorm-room, dot-com drama "The Social Network" remained in the top five for a third consecutive week. Moviegoers rang up roughly $3.3 million in ticket sales checking out the Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher-crafted retelling of the rise of Facebook. Friday's figure brings the film's total estimated haul to just over $55 million.

The rom-com "Life as We Know It" kicked off its second Friday in theaters in the fourth-place slot. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel's attempt to grapple with the ups and downs of unexpected parenthood scored nearly $3.1 million on screens. The film's total estimated gross now stands at $22.7 million.

Bringing up the rear is Disney's family-friendly, horseracing flick "Secretariat." The tale of an underdog equine who went on clench status as the 1973 Triple Crown winner — which also features Diane Lane and John Malkovich — snagged $2.8 million in theaters. The film has brought in around $21 million since its debut last week.
