October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and celebrities are using their star power to increase awareness about breast cancer and to raise funds for cancer research.
Many of our favorite celebrities have fought and won the battle against breast cancer and have since become advocates for cancer awareness.
Sheryl Crow who is famously a survivor the disease will play a free show in Hollywood on November 16 to raise awareness. Tickets are free in exchange for a pink Yoplait lid. The concert is a part of the Save Lids to Save Lives breast cancer campaign.
Our favorite redhead from Sex and the City, Cynthia Nixon fought breast cancer and is now an ambassador for Susan G. Koman for the Cure.
Ellen Degeneres, a fan favorite, has used her celebrity status to raise awareness about breast cancer since her mother won the battle against the disease recently. Ellen has also created “Team Ellen Show” for the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. Ellen celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness month on her show by surprising a woman battling breast cancer and her family. Check out the video below.
Television star Christina Applegate was very open about her struggle with the disease and after becoming an official survivor in 2009 has created the Right Action for Women Foundation which is still going strong in their efforts to raise awareness about the disease. Jewelry designer Alex Woo, whose mother passed away after fighting breast cancer, paired up with Applegate to create the “Tree of Life Pendant” with plans to donate profits to breast cancer research and Applegates’s Right Action for Women Foundation.
Applegate has also been a part of the campaign for National Denim Day 2010 which asks employers to allow employees to wear jeans one day each year in exchange for a donation to breast cancer research. This year’s National Denim Day is tomorrow, on October 8, 2010. Go to http://www.denimday.com/ for more information.
