Crystal Bowersox Is Engaged

'American Idol' runner-up will marry

boyfriend Brian Walker,

Season-nine "American Idol" runner-up Crystal Bowersox is heading down the aisle. The singer's rep confirmed to People that she's set to swap vows with her musician beau Brian Walker in October.
The impending nuptials come just months after Bowersox broke up with her longtime boyfriend Tony Kusian in the hours before her final "American Idol" performance. The singer explained that her bourgeoning fame wedged the couple apart. Both agreed that Kusian, who helped raise her toddler son, would prefer a low-key lifestyle.

"He's a small-town guy and that's fine," she told "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio program. "I'm a small-town girl, but I want this. I want this more than anything — this career, this lifestyle. I didn't think he was up for it. He didn't think he was up for it."

In addition to her upcoming wedding, Bowersox has been working on her major-label debut on 19 Recordings Limited and Jive. The earthy singer inked a contract within a day of the season-nine "Idol" finale but she has recently voiced her issues with her mainstream deal.

"Just frustrated with the politics of the industry. Not just jive just dissapointing how the industry has changed," Bowersox tweeted on Thursday. "Every1s hands are tied."

However, she didn't appear to let the music industry politics get her down, later adding, "regardless, im having the time of my life," before revealing she was recording "Farmer's Daughter."

"Thanks for all of the support, guys," Bowersox wrote to her Twitter followers. "I have more freedom than most signed artists, so imma stop complaining. I love what I do. I am blessed."

Saturday Night Live” Begins Season 36

Season 36,
The 36th season of “Saturday Night Live” kicked off last night with a familiar face, lots of cameos and a New York governor.
“SNL” alum Amy Poehler, now star of the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation,” returned back to her old digs as the guest host. Her opening monologue was mainly a dream sequence drawing on Poehler’s fear of arriving late to the show. She meets a variety of people in the dream, including former “SNL” cast mates Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon and Rachel Dratch, and has an awkward kissing scene with the real-life Justin Timberlake.
Poehler also reprised some familiar roles she played on the show including Amber, the one-legged flatulent woman with an attitude, and as the Weekend Update co-anchor with Seth Meyers. She also played a character in one skit who wears tiny hats.
Musical guest Katy Perry appeared in a skit as a young, bespeactacled library worker invited on a talk show called “Bronx Beat.” Perry’s character wore what looked like an Elmo shirt, a reference to the real-life controversy of her canceled segment on “Sesame Street.”

As herself, Perry performed two songs off her recent new album “Teenage Dream.” Dressed in her Lolita outfit, Perry was surrounded by a backdrop of cotton candy and lollipops during “California Gurls”; later, she sang “Teenage Dream” with musicians and backing singers wearing football jerseys and cheerleader outfits respectively.
The real highlight of the show occurred during the Weekend Update segment when Gov. David Paterson, played by Fred Armisen, appeared on to talk about the New York governor’s race . Staying in character like in his previous SNL appearances, Armisen’s Paterson is portrayed as a bumbling guest who likes to slam New Jersey.
But then the real David Paterson appeared, said "Stop! Stop! Stop!", and made fun of the fake governor’s look: “I shaved that [beard] off a year ago. Are you blind?” Paterson went on to poke fun at the show that he previously criticized for its insensitivity towards the disabled. He also compared “SNL” to working in Albany: “There’s a lot of characters, it’s funny for 10 minutes, and then you want it to be over.” Then he said, “I’m blind, I’m governor, and I’m still alive.”
Other noteworthy moments on the program included a skit on Delaware Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell (played by Kristen Wiig), who revealed to campaign consultants that she actually masturbates (the real O'Donnell had reportedly spoken out against masturbation) and has staged dog-fighting; a Republican National Committee TV commercial that alleges the proposed controversial mosque near Ground Zero is now offering to hold gay weddings; and an Actor II Actor interview between Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake that ends badly.
The show also marked the debut of four new featured players for the season: Paul Brittain, Taran Killam, Vanessa Bayer and Jay Pharaoh, who did an dead-on impression of Will Smith during Weekend Update.
Next week’s installment of “Saturday Night Live” (Oct. 2) will be hosted by “Breaking Bad” actor Bryan Cranston with musical guest Kanye West.

Hemlines are fashion headlines at Milan shows

Fashion headlines at
Milan shows,
Aside from bold color, the biggest news off the spring-summer 2011 is the skirt, or better yet. The hemline.
With two days to go until the end of the Milan Fashion Week, the mini skirt has all but disappeared from the runway, replaced by hemlines that fall around or below the knee. Long skirts are also very popular.
In keeping with this new look, which already made its first appearance on the runway for the upcoming winter, the designers do away with short shorts and most trousers.
On Saturday both Giorgio Armani and Raf Simons for Jil Sander based their collections on the new hemline.
Leitmotif of the latest Emporio Armani collection is the stretch tulle skirt, which hangs down like a slip, providing a covering layer for above the knee skirts and mini dresses, both by day and by night.
Armani was one of the few designers who featured shorts in his second line collection, aimed at the younger set. Many of his ultra-light jackets were paired with a pair of just-above-the-knee Bermuda shorts.
Later Saturday Raf Simons based an entire collection around the long skirt paired with a T-shirt.

The T-shirt was white cotton and the down to the ankle skirt came in crisp silk with slits up the sides. The skirt evolved to become a striped or printed gown, but in both cases the hemline brushed the floor.
Simons, too, slipped a pair of pants into his collection, but it was long, loose and femininely gathered at the waist.

Saturday morning Tomas Maier for Bottega Veneta treated the fashion crowd to a show where everything was as light as a feather, and almost every skirt began somewhere from the knee down. His ultra-wide evening gowns had hemlines so long they could double for a train.
Earlier in the week, Donatella Versace, great fan of the mini skirt, yanked her hemline several inches below the knee, to create a prim ladylike look for next summer.
Underlining the new trend, the designer traded in her trademark tight black pants with matching glittery top, for a simple below the knee black cocktail dress, for her runway bow.

Victims of a ratings war and chaotic shifts in the business

NBC Universal and CNN,

Two of the media industry's highest profile executives said on Friday they would leave NBC Universal and CNN, victims of a ratings war and chaotic shifts in the business.

NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker will step down once Comcast Corp takes control of the company, expected by the end of this year.

CNN's U.S. network chief, Jonathan Klein, left the pioneering cable network on Friday.

Zucker had rocketed up the corporate ladder but recently encountered several high-profile setbacks, including unsuccessfully moving Jay Leno to prime-time and then having to move him back to late night.

The announcement of his departure came about an hour after Time Warner Inc's CNN said Klein had been replaced.

Both Zucker and Klein had been under a harsh spotlight for months as their networks lost viewers in the increasingly vicious battle to win prime-time evening slots.

These management shake-ups follow the resignation earlier this month of ABC News President David Westin after 13 years.

Zucker, 45, said in an interview with Reuters that he wished he had been able to fix the NBC broadcast network, which has had steep ratings declines and few genuine hits in the last four years.

"I came to grips with the right time for me to move on and at the same time Comcast said to me they wanted me to move on, so we kind of got to the same place," Zucker said.

"My biggest regret is that we haven't had more success in turning round NBC Entertainment," he said. "Other than that, I feel very confident about what we've done with the company."

Zucker said he would leave the job once Comcast had completed its deal to take control of NBC Universal from current owner General Electric Co. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2010.

Many media watchers had anticipated that Zucker, who became chief executive at NBC Universal in 2007, would leave NBC after the Comcast deal was announced in December.

Steve Burke, Comcast's chief operating officer, is overseeing preparations for integrating NBC Universal, and analysts have he could end up running the business once the deal closes.

Other media executives who could be candidates for senior jobs at NBC Universal include former News Corp Chief Operating Officer Peter Chernin and Tom Freston, one-time boss at Viacom Inc.

Sex allegations roil black church community

Sex allegations on church community,
Bishop Eddie L. Long built a religious empire just outside Atlanta by preaching a blend of the Gospel mixing faith, politics and finance - wrapped up in a flashy style - that propelled him to the pinnacle of the movement of large, independent African American mega-churches across the nation.

Now, after he was slapped with four lawsuits last week alleging he used his position to coerce young male members of his flock into sex acts, Long's future as a towering figure in the one of the country's most accomplished black communities and beyond is in question. On Sunday, Long is expected to take to the pulpit of his sprawling Lithonia church and address his 25,000-member congregation.

Many thousands more will be listening, and some are even flying to witness the event. The allegations have been a hot topic on black radio and Web sites since they came to light Tuesday, and black preachers across the country will continue the conversation from their pulpits Sunday.

It is, parishioners and observers say, a moment of undeniable crisis in the black church.

"The only person in the pantheon of black churches who is bigger than this is T.D. Jakes," said Anthea Butler, a religion professor at the University of Pennsylvania who was among those flying down to Georgia. "And Atlanta is the epicenter of black church life. . . . It's going to rock everything at the church, and people will really start to question these ministers."

While there has been speculation that Long will step down from the pulpit of New Birth, where he began ministering in 1987 with 300 members, his attorney, Craig Gillen, said in an interview that he did not expect that to happen. Instead, he said, he thinks Long will offer a vigorous defense against the accusations, which Long addressed in a statement posted Thursday to his church's Web site.

"I am anxious to respond directly to these false allegations and I will do so. However, my lawyers have counseled patience at this time," Long said. "But let me be clear; the charges against me and New Birth are false. I have devoted my life to helping others and these false allegations hurt me deeply. But my faith is strong and the truth will emerge."

Long, 57, has been a national figure in African American church circles since the mid-1990s. He came to national prominence in 2006 when his New Missionary Baptist Church hosted four U.S. presidents for the funeral of Coretta Scott King. The church sits on a 240-acre campus, has satellite churches in other cities and is one of the largest venues in Georgia.

According to suits filed in Dekalb County, Long enticed the young men into homosexual acts with jewelry, cars, trips and access to celebrities. B.J. Bernstein, the attorney for the four plaintiffs, declined to comment on the case or whether more young men would come forward with similar allegations. Last week she released pictures Long allegedly sent to his accusers from his cellphone of himself in bathrooms in a variety of tight-fitting muscle shirts.

In their lawsuits, the young men, all over 16 at the time of the alleged incidents, say that Long instructed them to call him "Daddy" and moved to block their relationships with girls by "increased contact and spiritual talk as to the covenant between the Spiritual Son and himself."

The lawsuits, which name Long, New Birth and LongFellows Youth Academy as defendants, say people in Long's circle knew about his conduct but did nothing to warn the defendants. They allege that he "has a pattern and practice of singling out a select group of young male church members and using his authority as Bishop over them to ultimately bring them to the point of engaging in a sexual relationship."

For years, Long has been either beloved or bemoaned for his glitzy lifestyle and politically connected mega-church. It has TV ministries, a fitness center, a school and a program for the homeless and addicted. According to its Web site, it has also held weekly "out of the wilderness" counseling sessions for the "discipleship of men and women struggling with homosexuality."

Hollywood bitten by Bollywood bug

Bollywood seems to have become a hot
spot for Hollywood actors. From Sylvester Stallone, Kylie Minogue to Brandon Routh, Ben Kingsley and now Drew Barrymore, superstars from the West have started showing interest in Hindi films. Charlie's Angels star Drew has been roped in to star in
The Lifestyle, about three women from different walks of life trying to assert their identities. Barrymore will play a foreigner in the film.
Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage is also said to be playing the lead in Vidhu Vinod Chopra's English directorial venture Broken Horses, shooting for which was due to begin in September.

It is being said that Hollywood action man Mickey Rourke was approached to play a role in the gangster film that Chopra is producing in association with Reliance Big Pictures.

The film Broken Horses is reportedly inspired by Chopra's Hindi movie Parinda, starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit.

Colombian singer Shakira will play goddess Kaali in an Indian film called Kaali - The Warrior Goddess.

India is one of the world's largest film-producing countries and churns out more than 1,000 movies every year. And now the West seems to be warming up to it.

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakkht Ishq had international stars like Stallone, Routh and Denise Richards. In director Anthony D'Souza's Akshay Kumar-starrer Blue, Australian singer Kylie Minogue made a cameo appearance.

Kingsley played a pivotal role in director Leena Yadav's Teen Patti.

"You (Indian films) have very distinct styles of cinema. You have your popular Bollywood movies which are loved by the massive Indian diaspora. So your filmmaking is perceived in different ways in the Western world. They have great popularity among Western audiences," Kingsley had told IANS.

The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, R. Madhavan, Raima Sen and Shraddha Kapoor.

In an interview to Gaurdian magazine, Akshay said: "I presume they must be seeing what is happening in India. They see what Bollywood was two or three years ago and then they see what it is today. It has grown a lot and it has the capacity and capability to grow much more. If this collaboration works, then things will start moving towards Hollywood and Bollywood coming together again and again."

In Kambakkht Ishq, Denise played the role of a girl in love with Akshay, who played a stuntman in the film.

Talking about her experience, Denise had said: " Kambakkht Ishq was my first Bollywood film and I didn't know what to expect from it. But I felt very comfortable. Bollywood is a very catchy phrase; it sounds cool. All of you welcomed me and made me feel so comfortable. Thank you. You all are very helpful and very fun people and I love that."

It's not just Minogue who sang and acted in a Hindi film, but rapper Snoop Dogg turned into a Sikh for Singh Is Kinng, again an Akshay-starrer, and also sang the title track.

Singer Akon is composing and singing for Shah Rukh Khan's sci-fiction film Ra.One. The singer said he plans to work more with Indian music directors: "You will see me doing more things in India soon."

Dancing Star Jennifer Grey Leads Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the stars Viennese Waltz,

11th season of Dancing with the Stars premiered on ABC Monday night, with Dirty Dancing actress JENNIFER GREY and pro partner DEREK HOUGH grabbing the early lead after an emotional Viennese waltz. Watch it here

Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough Dancing with the stars Viennese Waltz

Grey and Judge CARRIE ANN INABA were both close to tears after the actress’ ballroom performance when they recalled her Dirty Dancing co-star, the late PATRICK SWAYZE. Judge BRUNO TONIOLI also referenced the late actor and Grey’s character from the movie when he said, “Baby is back where she belongs. I know someone up there will be very proud of you.”

There’s a three-way tie for last place between comedian MARGARET CHO, Jersey Shore cast member MIKE “THE SITUATION” SORRENTINO and actor DAVID HASSELHOFF, and their respective partners.

There were reports earlier in the day that contestant BRISTOL PALIN’s mom, former Alaska Governor SARAH PALIN, would be in the studio audience, but the teen told Judge Bruno her mother was not in attendance.

Here’s a rundown of last night’s performances:

-- AUDRINA PATRIDGE of The Hills and pro partner TONY DOVOLANI hit the ballroom floor first for a Cha Cha Cha danced to KATY PERRY’s “California Gurls.” Judge LEN GOODMAN said Audrina had good technique and Judge BRUNO TONIOLI said she looked like a “beautiful show pony” that needed to be pushed into shape. Judge CARRIE ANN INABA said Audrina had “cojones” to dance a solo the first time out. Overall score: 19 out of a possible 30.

-- Former NFL quarterback KURT WARNER and ANNA TREBUNSKAYA danced the Viennese waltz. Bruno said the former NFL MVP was a “natural” and had “great potential.” Carrie Ann said Warner had grace, but Len disagreed, saying there was very little to commend. Overall score: 19/30.

-- Disney Channel star KYLE MASSEY and LACEY SCHWIMMER danced the Cha Cha Cha. Carrie Ann said Kyle was “dynamite.” Bruno said Kyle’ performance was “divine entertainment.” Overall score: 23/30.

-- Former NBA champion RICK FOX and CHERYL BURKE danced the Viennese waltz. Len said Rick danced with great energy and had good posture. Carrie Ann agreed, telling Fox his posture was “ridiculously gorgeous.” Overall score: 22/30.

-- Comedian MARGARET CHO and LOUIS VAN AMSTEL danced the Viennese waltz to “We Are the Champions.” Cho got wrapped up in her gold cape, but said afterward it was done on purpose. She also fell down at the end. The judges all agreed that Cho had potential and she should not have introduced comedic elements into the waltz. Overall score: 15/30.

-- Singer BRANDY and MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY danced the Viennese waltz. Carrie Ann told Brandy the performance was wonderful. Bruno said "I love the taste of Brandy." Overall score: 23/30.

-- Self-described “teen advocate” BRISTOL PALIN and MARK BALLAS danced the Cha Cha Cha to “Mama Told Me Not to Come.” Len said it was a very acceptable performance. Bruno told Palin she was in “virgin territory,” but did well. Carrie Ann said she was impressed and told Palin, “I see a future for you.” Overall score: 18/30.

-- Brady Bunch mom FLORENCE HENDERSON and CORKY BALLAS danced the Cha Cha Cha. Bruno called the 76-year-old actress “spunky.” Len said the performance was entertaining. Overall score: 18/30.

-- Singer MICHAEL BOLTON and partner CHELSIE HIGHTOWER danced the Viennese waltz. Carrie Ann noticed that Bolton allowed Hightower to lead. Len complimented Bolton on getting through the first week. Overall score: 16/30.

-- Jersey Shore cast member MIKE “THE SITUATION” SORRENTINO and KARINA SMIRNOFF danced the Cha Cha Cha to “Break Your Heart.” Len said “The Sitch” was under-rehearsed, referring to his physique by adding “You’ve got the guns but not the ammunition.” Overall score: 15/30.

-- Dirty Dancing actress JENNIFER GREY and reigning champion DEREK HOUGH danced the Viennese waltz to “These Arms of Mine.” Bruno referenced Grey’s character from Dirty Dancing and the late PATRICK SWAYZE when he said, “Baby is back where she belongs. I know someone up there will be very proud of you.” Carrie Ann was brought close to tears by Grey’s performance. Overall score: 24/30

-- Actor DAVID HASSELHOFF and pro partner KYM JOHNSON danced the Cha Cha Cha to the TOM JONES song “Sex Bomb.” Len reacted to the performance by declaring, “David, it’s never too early to panic.” Bruno said there was no timing whatsoever in the performance, calling it a “potpourri of insanity.” Overall score: 15/30.

The team that receives the lowest combined total of viewer and judges votes will be voted off on Tuesday night’s results show. The evening will also feature live performances from SANTANA, DAUGHTRY and INDIA.ARIE. The Dancing with the Stars results show airs at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

Affleck 'persuaded Postlethwaite

The Hollywood star Ben Affleck has revealed that British actor Pete Postlethwaite took a lot of persuading to appear in his new film, The Town.
The Oscar winner, who directed and co-wrote the heist thriller as well as starring as Boston bank robber Doug MacRay, was determined to sign up Postlethwaite as crime boss Fergie the Florist but kept being rejected.
"I had to call Pete five times, as he kept turning me down - I had to accommodate him because I knew how great he was," said Ben, 38, at the film's special Bafta screening in London's West End.
The Town had a strong opening weekend in the US and is on course to top the box office, beating rivals Easy A and Devil.
"I'm shocked and pleased. It is a modest movie, it's R-rated but obviously people want to see it," Ben added.
Co-star Rebecca Hall, looking elegant in a black mini-dress and Nicholas Kirkwood heels, did not need much persuasion to join the star-studded cast, which included Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner, Mad Men star Jon Hamm and Gossip Girl's Blake Lively.
"I didn't need any persuasion. It was a no-brainer. The Town is a classic, old-fashioned good yarn," she said.
The Town marks Ben's second directorial effort and is based on the novel Prince Of Thieves by Chuck Hogan.
It opens in cinemas on Friday September 24.,

Michael Douglas Throat Cancer Star Optimistic About Recovery

Hollywood star Twitter,

Hollywood star Michael Douglas says that he is very optimistic about fully recovering from throat cancer and has about 80% chance of doing so.

The 65-year old actor, who gained mass popularity after starring as the cop in “Basic Instinct” with Sharon Stone, said that he was diagnosed with throat cancer about 3 weeks ago. He is at Stage 4 of the cancer. Michael Douglas said that he came to know of his condition early in summer this year when he became afflicted with a “really sore throat”.
Douglas had come on the “Late Night Show With David Letterman” to promote his new movie ‘Wall Street 2′ and he admitted that he had finished his first week of radiation and chemotherapy treatments. He also said that “it’s about an eight-week struggle.” The actor says that his heavy smoking and drinking caused the throat cancer. He says that the cancer hasn’t yet spread to his neck, which is a good thing, and that he expects a full recovery.
Michael Douglas had announced about his throat cancer diagnosis on August 16 this year and has been overwhelmed by the love and support he has received from people in the industry as well as his fans. He has cancelled his appearances at the Zurich Film Festival and the CLSA Investors’ Forum in Hong Kong.
Michael Douglas is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones and has two children with her. He also has a son from his previous marriage to Diandra Luker.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher during the Jewish holiday

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher at Jewish holiday,
Demi Moore has put on a show of solidarity with hubby Ashton Kutcher after a fortnight of marriage trouble allegations.
The 47-year-old actress posted a ‘Twitter’ photo which showed her holding hands with her 32-year-old boytoy after completing a fast to mark Jewish holy day Yom Kippur.

“Had a wonderful day with hubby and my baby girl Ru!” she wrote on the social network site. “Finished our fast for Yom Kippur and now we are ready for food!!”

She later posted a photo of her and Kutcher looking cozy in a car park.

“We broke our fast at Applebees!!” she wrote. “Now back to work for me.” Moore and Kutcher’s five-year marriage was hit with allegations of infidelity when US magazine Star claimed Kutcher had cheated on his wife.

The actor furiously denied reports that he cheated on Moore with a mystery blonde at a Hollywood restaurant and has not addressed more recent infidelity claims by the same magazine.

“I think Star magazine calling me a ‘cheater’ qualifies as defamation of character,” he wrote on his ‘Twitter’ page earlier this month.

“I hope my lawyer agrees.” Moore’s Yom Kippur fast confused some of her ‘Twitter’ followers who told her they were not aware she was Jewish.

“I’m not Jewish but I am a student of Kabbalah,” she wrote in response to one of them.

Easy A Movie Review – New Emma Stone Film Reviews & Trailer

New Emma Stone Film Reviews,

The Easy A Movie Review – New Emma Stone Film Reviews & Trailer – Emma Stone has been making quite a career for herself with a number of her recent features. She saw her popularity rise in “Zombieland,” and has continued to land feature roles since that time. In “Easy A,” she receives her first leading role in a movie of her career, and she pulls through in the clutch.

The film will likely be looked at as her own personal “Clueless,” and should serve as a launching point throughout her career. The movie does not suffer from the same mundane plotline woes that most high school flicks do, and where the script falls short, Emma is able to shine and make the most out of the scene.
